Caitlin and I had a girls night out last week (yes - last week... this is the first time my computer has been free between Club Penguin and poker on Facebook). We went to visit my future son-in-law. I guess that is what I should call him since Caitlin calls him "my future husband." We speak of course, of Kyle Korver of the Utah Jazz.

Caitlin: "Mom... did you know that Kyle is only 28?"Caitlin: "Mom, can we get a little closer?"

Since he's been out injured this season, there was a bit of rust, so Caitlin rubbed her jersey 26 times and then stared at him for 26 seconds (I think it was actually longer) and lo and behold, he had the best game of the season!

The Jazz won thanks to Caitlin and her voodoo spell . School night? What school night? Let's go watch the post game interview!

Eventually we made it home through the blinding snowstorm, but it was a great time!

Olympic Flashback

Watching the Olympics every night has made me nostalgic, so we're pulling out some pics from 2002. Here's hoping the games will come back here again one day. Every venue had a preview event to 'test the waters' so to speak. This was at the speedskating event. Those Dutch folks were enthusiastic to say the least. Caitlin had a bit of an issue with how loud it got (again, I blame the Dutch), but she looked cute with her 'merican flag. I still haven't figured out how Austin got a Japanese flag on his forehead, but oh well. Our own Olympic Village. I think they should have tightened security a little bit - look at all these hooligans!

The United States team enters the stadium during the opening ceremonies. This was one of the few pictures I took that didn't have the heads of the Italian folks sitting in front of us in the photo also. They may have blocked my pictures, but they were quite entertaining. Congratulations on the Olympic gold medal Austin! That would be the actual Ladies figure skating gold medal (see below). One of our friend's father was the project manager at the company that made the medals so we had a little preview. They were very heavy and the silver was the prettiest.

Belated Valentines...

As you can see, Mom went all out for Annie's birthday/Valentine's dinner (with both food and decoration). Don't y'all wish you lived closer because we got more chocolate (insert evil chuckle here). Of course all of my chocolate is gone - I had to eat it up as fast as I could because I gave it up for Lent. I didn't want to have any in the house tormenting me until April.

Um... Austin... Chuck Bass called and said he wanted his look back because you weren't doing it right, but Justin Bieber said you could keep the hair.

Today seemed like a good day to play hooky. Caitlin was out of school (track break) and Austin's grades were A-OK so we headed to the mountains. I'm here to tell you that skiing will definitely remind you of how old you are. I'm hoping to be able to walk tomorrow (I may have to go on the injured reserve list - although I guess I can still type, so I'll soldier through).

Caitlin didn't miss a beat - she just took right off. Hopefully she's going to learn how to turn instead of just pointing the skis downhill and leaving her mom in the dust.

It was a spectacularly B.E.A.Utiful day today - we worried because it was supposed to snow, but it snowed a bit last night and all that powder fluttered around in the air all day. It was pretty cool because the sky was so blue, but there was snow in the air... I know, the picture doesn't really show that.

I love it when the slopes aren't crowded (I'll only ski on weekdays for this very reason).

Austin had an unfortunate incident in the powder ... it was a little deeper in the trees than he thought it would be - it took a bit of effort to get himself out. He didn't move for quite a while, but he eventually cleaned off the board and took off again.

Ok. It's time for Advil.

So 1 thing I want to tell you is that I met Jerry Sloan on Friday and then we went to Cocsto and got a WII!!!!! Me and Austin were playing it all night! And my family played it with me and Austin! "Wii" played Wii Bowling on Wii Sports!

Horsing Around

We had a fun visit with Grandma & Papa this weekend. We had to replenish the chocolates that "mysteriously" disappeared - it's not my fault if I hid them from the family successfully this year (hey Lisa - or better yet Brett, don't you wish you lived closer?). As we were headed on our way home, we made a trip to the pasture to check out the new additions. 'Spirit' was in a friendly mood - at least I think he was ... I REALLY hoped he was since he is one ginormous animal. Here are the kiddies with the horsey kiddies. Um... Austin... watch where you're walkin' in those new shoes - avoid the steaming snow.
Good times, but I couldn't feel my feet all the way home (poor shoe selection for visiting an icy pasture in 20 degree weather). Next time, I'll even bring my camera.

Holidaze

So I've had my newly re-repaired computer back for less than 24 hours and Mom, in her ever so gentle manner, suggests, "now you can update your blog." So here's some moderate catching up (since I've basically been without a home computer since December 1st, but who's counting?).

The holidays came and went with record speed this year. We had the traditional Christmas Eve dinner at Mom's this year. So much good food!!! Caitlin commandeered my camera, but that's okay if she gets good pictures like this one of Jessie, Vickie and Rod. ¯¯¯ Her name was Annie, she was a show girl.

Can you just hear Mom saying, "let's get a picture in front of the tree"?Despite Caitlin's questionable proclamation of disbelief in Santa, she was convincingly enthusiastic in waking us up by running through the house screaming, "Santa came! Santa came! Wake up! WAKE UP!! WAKE UP!!!!"

(We were victorious today - 2 weeks and 2 days after Christmas - in getting the iTouch Santa brought her set up. Thank you 17 year old Apple Store worker! Plus it helps if you actually have a computer.) Austin was still playing it pretty cool Christmas morning - all that was abandoned when he opened the PS3. Blue Ray is delightful!

New Year's Eve took us over to our friends house (the Steeler fans we went to Denver with). We had a fabulous dinner and fun fireworks.My children are bugging me now that they want a Doberman. Hmmm. I'll have to think about that one. I guess if they ever meet my condition (taking care of their rooms), we'd consider it (yep - we're NEVER getting a dog). There was no shortage of energy as 2010 dawned (I'm speaking strictly of the children - I had to get a nap in before midnight).
